Rev. John H. Rollins, 82, of Oceana, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, in
Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 24, 1925, in Kenova, W.Va., he was the son of the late Bert and Laura Salters Rollins. Rev. Rollins was a member of the Toneda Baptist Church, a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA District 17 and a retired minister. He loved serving the Lord, helping those in need and gardening. During his life he was a pastor of several churches in Wyoming, Mingo, Raleigh and McDowell counties. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Kenneth and James Rollins. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Winnie Ruth Rollins of the residence; five sons, Tom Rollins and his wife Becky of Altus, Okla., William Rollins and his wife Fannie of Cyclone, Rev. John H. Rollins Jr. and his wife Kristine of Scott Depot, Gerald D. Rollins of the residence, and Gregory W. Rollins and his wife Janet of Cyclone; two daughters, Betty Blankenship and her husband Lonnie of Cyclone, and Fannie B. Edwards and her husband Greg of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a sister, Clara B. Stewart of Westmont, Ill.; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Evans Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at the funeral home.
